The event marks the release of the QUB Human Rights Centre report 'More than a Number: Reparations for those Bereaved during the Troubles', which analyses 1,000 compensation awards made between 1966-1976 in the early years of the Troubles when half of all victims were killed. It finds that many victims were inadequately compensated, discriminated against and suffered gender bias that failed to effectively remedy the harm caused by extrajudicial killings during the Troubles. The report makes a number of recommendations for a bereavement payment scheme. The report team will be joined by the Victims and Survivors Commissioner Ian Jeffers and the authors of the report Professor Luke Moffett and Dr Kevin Hearty.
