RÓISE CONNOLLYRoise Connolly

Róise Connolly is from Northern Ireland, and holds an LLB in Law from Queen’s University and an LLM with Distinction in Law, Medicine and Healthcare from The University of Liverpool.

Róise’s PhD research project, for which she received a DEL scholarship, focuses on the patentability of diagnostic technology in Europe, and whether international human rights law can intervene in the decline of the patent law safeguard that prevents diagnostic methods from being granted patent protection. Róise examines how within the right to health, diagnostic technology is especially important because of how it can shape a person’s subsequent interactions with healthcare; thus, based on lessons learned from how the language of rights has been used for access-to-medicines, Róise’s research aims to contest the current state of the law from an international human rights law perspective.
