The Problems with Human Rights
Emeritus Professor Brice Dickson delivered the 2019 Stephen Livingstone Annual Lecture, entitled “The Problems with Human Rights” on Thursday 21st November. Introductions were made by Head of the School of Law, Professor Robin Hickey, who gave a brief history into the establishment of the Stephen Livingstone Annual Lecture and the importance of continuing Professor Livingstone’s legacy in human rights.
The lecture explored the philosophical, legal, and practical problems often encountered by legal and non-legal professionals when trying to ensure adequate human rights protection by law. Professor Dickson has an extensive body of work focused on human rights law, that can be found on his profile on the Universities PURE pages.
To coincide with the lecture the Northern Ireland Legal Quarterly has released a Stephen Livingstone Special Issue which collects several of his main articles from the journal to commemorate and celebrate his contribution to Human Rights Scholarship. This issue is open access in perpetuity.
