Legal Placement Module
The Legal Placement Module, offering students 100-hour placements at law firms and workshops with the QUB Careers Service, presents invaluable benefits for aspiring legal professionals. By providing hands-on experience in a real-world legal environment, students gain a deeper understanding of the law in practice and develop essential skills for their future careers. Exposure to practical legal work allows students to apply their theoretical knowledge to real cases, observe the day-to-day operations of a law firm, and gain valuable insights into the ethical, professional, and interpersonal aspects of the field.
In addition to practical experience, the QUB Careers Service workshops enhance students’ employability by equipping them with essential career development tools. Module assessment is also critically important, and is comprised of three elements. The reflective log and case study elements encourage students to engage in critical self-assessment, a valuable skill in any profession. Additionally students must deliver an oral presentation, which provides a useful opportunity to practice skills which are required in the world of work. Through the process of preparing for the presentation, students can develop their ability to synthesise information and present to an audience. Through these experiences, students can identify areas of growth and improvement, recognise the specific skills they have acquired, and articulate their experience and acquired skills when applying for jobs, internships, or further education. This combination of hands-on experience and professional development opportunities contributes to the long-term success of students in the legal profession.
