Professor Joan Loughrey attends the Fourth Dialogue on Civilizations in China
QUB deepens international friendships

On 28th and 29th May Professor Joan Loughrey, the Head of the School of Law was invited to the Fourth Dialogue on Exchanges and Mutual Learning among Civilizations that took place in Dunhuang, China.
This important high level conference was opened by Vice President of China Han Zheng and attended by dignitaries, academics and NGOs from around the globe.
Professor Loughrey presented a paper on the role of Law, the Courts and lawyers for Justice, a Shared Value of Mankind, at a panel session led and organised by the School of Juridical Science, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL). Professor Xu Shenjian , Dean and Professor of the School of Juridical Science, CUPL provided the opening address. Other panellists included Daubler-Gmelin Herta, former Minister of Justice of Germany, Professor Huang Jin, former President of CUPL, and Vice President of the World Jurist Association, Professor Guo Li, Dean of Law, Peking University, Professor Chun, Inha University, Korea, Professor Yang Dong, Dean of Renmin School of Law, Professor Sun Xiaoxia, Dean and Professor of the Institute of the Digital Rule of Law, Zhejiang University, Professor Li Deshun, Professor Emeitus CUPL, Professor Cardillo, LUISS, Professor Judith McMorrow, Boston College Law School. The closing remarks were delivered by Professor Huan Jin, CUPL with comments by Dr Ningyao Ye, CUPL.
During her visit Professor Loughrey was interviewed by China Central Television and Gansu Television about Queen’s partnerships in China and on lawyers ethics.
In addition prior to the conference Professor Loughrey spent time at the School of Juridical Science, China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing where she delivered an invited lecture to students.
Professor Loughrey said "I am deeply grateful to my hosts the School of Juridical Science, China Univrsity of Political Science and Law, and in particular to their Dean Professor Xu Shenjian, China’s leading expert in legal ethics for the incredibly kind hospitality I received. and for the opportunity to contribute to such an important conference. It was a real privilege to speak alongside the Deans of the leading Law Schools in China and learned professors and academics from across the region and beyond, and the discussion provided much to reflect on. As a Law School and a University, Queen’s University Belfast is committed to deepening our relationships with China and this visit provided a great opportunity to strengthen the School’s valued friendship with CUPL."
