All-Island Conversation around Covid-19 and Human Rights Seminar Series

Topics include emergency powers; health and the dead; and gender.

The Human Rights Centre is pleased to be hosting an online webinar series on an 'All-Island Conversation around Covid-19 and Human Rights'. This seminar series brings together leading experts across the island of Ireland to discuss human rights issues which are particularly pressing during the Covid-19 pandemic. Seminar topics are emergency powers; health and the dead; and gender. 
 
Our first webinar on the topic of emergency powers will feature Professor Fionnuala Ni Aolain, QUB and University of Minnesota Law School and the United Nations Special Rapporteur for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights while Countering Terrorism and Liam Herrick, Executive Director of the Irish Council for Civil Liberties. Date: 28 April 2020, 1pm. Registration is via the following link: http://go.qub.ac.uk/covid19-hr 
 
The second seminar - 'Managing the dead in the Covid-19 epidemic: examining ethics, rights and regulation' will be held on 5 May 2020 at 1pm. Speakers are Prof. Anne-Maree Farrell and Prof. Heather Conway, School of Law, QUB.
 
The third seminar focuses on gender. Speakers are Dr. Catherine O'Rourke, Director of the Transitional Justice Institute, Ulster University and Prof. Siobhan Mullally, Director of the Irish Centre for Human Rights at NUI Galway.  This webinar will be held week beginning 11 May 2020. Exact date to be confirmed.
