The Technological Transformation of Sex

Project Commenced: 02/09/2019

Project Completion Date: 01/09/2022

Project PI/s

Project Description

The digital age, from the mid-1990s onward, has seen massive expansion in new technologies that have had an unprecedented impact on everyday social lives, including transforming the ways many people seek and enact sexual connections. However, problems have arisen with this through such things as privacy breaches and online sexual harassment. The law, regulatory and educational systems have struggled to keep pace with ethical, social and legal issues arising from sexualised use of new technologies for which there are few precedents. This project will enhance knowledge about the ways individuals engage with new digital, mechanical or medical technologies in their sexual lives and identify potential solutions to emerging problems.
